Premier League: Arsenal vs. Birmingham
Having dropped to third in midweek following Chelsea’s victory, Arsenal will try to regain the top spot in the Premier League when they meet Birmingham City today at St. Andrew’s Stadium.
The Gunners head into the game eyeing a seventh EPL victory on the bounce, although they will have to make do without defender Thomas Vermaelen, who serves a one-match ban.
Mikael Silvestre is expected to fill in alongside Sol Campbell, while Nicklas Bendtner should be fit. Johan Dijouri, Keiran Gibbs, William Gallas, Aaron Ramsey and Robin Van Persie are all unavailable due to injury.
Birmingham, on the other hand, has no new injury worries. Garry O’Connor and David Murphy remain the only long-term injury concerns, but both could return next month.
Alex McLeish’s men have played fantastic this season and have fought for their right to be in the league. Flying high in seventh, the Blues looked to have adapted quite well in the top flight. They are unbeaten at home since September and Arsenal’s hopes of being crowned champions will face another test.
The match kicks-off at 15:00 GMT.
UPDATE: A late equalizer from substitute Kevin Phillips gave Birmingham City a 1-1 stalemate over Arsenal.
