Premier League: Chelsea vs. Portsmouth
Premier League leaders Chelsea will face bottom placed Portsmouth this evening and Avram Grant will be looking to capitalize on the Blues’ stuttering run of form when he returns to Stamford Bridge for the first time since taking over as Pompey manager.
The Israeli was sacked at the end of the 2007-08 season after losing out to Manchester United in the Champions League final. He still has fond memories of his time with Chelsea and admits his return to West London will be an emotional episode.
The boys from Fratton Park arrive on the back of six successive losses at the Bridge; they last won there in 1955.
Meanwhile Chelsea could be without Didier Drogba after he hurt his back in training. The 31-year-old Ivorian striker had to leave training Tuesday because of the injury.
Drogba bagged a brace in Saturday’s disappointing home draw with Everton but Carlo Ancelotti believes his men have the firepower to manage in his absence.
The match kicks-off at 19:45 GMT.
UPDATE: The Blues moved three points clear of Manchester United at the top of the EPL as Frank Lampard’s penalty in the 79th minute clinched a 2-1 victory over Portsmouth.
Nicolas Anelka scored early into the game, but had his opener canceled out in the second half by Frederic Piquionne.
