Premier League: Manchester United vs. Wigan Athletic

Manchester United cannot afford another stumble out of the blocks when they face Wigan Athletic this afternoon at the DW Stadium. Both teams go into the match looking for a rebound from respective losses at the hands of the Clarets and Wanderers.

The Red Devils have been completely dominant over Wigan in the Premier League. The Latics have lost all nine of their meetings with United in all contests, conceding 25 goals in the process at an average of 2.78 per game. However, Sir Alex Ferguson has acknowledged he faces problems with goal scoring and with injuries in defense.

Without Cristiano Ronaldo, the Reds lack that penetration, quality and also direct threat in the box. But in a recent interview, the Manchester boss insisted that he has no plans of abandoning his policy of sticking with the players he already has.

He also defended Dimitar Berbatov and stressed that the 28-year-old Bulgarian striker will soon shine for the champs.

Berbatov came in for criticism last season after he scored 14 goals following his £30million switch from the Spurs.

The match kicks-off at 3:00 p.m. (10:00 a.m. ET).

UPDATE: Wayne Rooney scored twice while Dimitar Berbatov, Nani and Michael Owen also tacked on tallies, powering United to a 5-0 victory against Wigan. Watch the highlights below:
