Premier League: Manchester United vs. Fulham
Manchester United will try to regain their place at the top of the Premier League when they meet 10th place Fulham this afternoon.
Arsenal and Chelsea passed Sir Alex Ferguson’s side at the EPL summit with victories yesterday. The Blues beat West Ham 4-1 for 64 points, while the Gunners have the same total after a 2-1 win over Hull City.
United will be overwhelming favorites here having demolished AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League in midweek. The 7-2 aggregate victory over the Italian giants kept the Red Devils on course for a third successive European final but Ferguson is equally excited about the possibility of becoming the first English club to win four successive top-flight championships and an unprecedented nineteenth in total.
“Winning this 19th league title is very much in my soul,” the Scot told Britain’s The Sun. “We are chasing four titles in a row – that would be fantastic.”
But today the Old Trafford club will be without Ryan Giggs and Ritchie De Laet while the Cottagers don’t have many injury concerns. Giggs is still a week away from a return following an arm injury last month, while De Laet is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a leg problem in the reserve team encounter with Manchester City.
The match kicks-off at 13:30 GMT (9:30 a.m. ET).
UPDATE: Wayne Rooney scored a double as the Red Devils defeated Fulham 3-0 to return to the top of the Premier League.
