Premier League: Manchester United vs. Wigan Athletic

The Latics take on Manchester United tonight with manager Roberto Martinez confident that his men are capable of getting a result against the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

Both teams need the points for different reasons. Manchester United is chasing Chelsea at the top of the Premier League standings while Wigan would like to improve their record and move ahead of the bottom three.

These two sides have met several times and every game has been won by Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. In August, the Latics lost 5-0 to the Red Devils after a humiliating second half at the DW stadium.

Wigan visit United tonight with the task of stopping a brilliant Wayne Rooney. The 24-year-old striker has scored eight times in 10 matches against Martinez’s side–and will be looking to add to his 13 goals this term.

The match kicks-off at 20:00 GMT.

Possible Starting Lineup:

Mancher United: Kuszczak, Neville, Vidic, Brown, Evra, Valencia, Fletcher, Scholes, Giggs, Rooney, Berbatov.

Wigan Athlectic: Kirkland, Melchiot, Bramble, Boyce, Figueroa, Gomez, Thomas, Scharner, N’Zogbia, Sinclair, Rodallega.

UPDATE: United closed the gap on EPL leaders Chelsea to two points with a 5-0 rout of Wigan. The Red Devils raced into a 3-0 lead by halftime with goals from Rooney, Michael Carrick and Rafael before Dimitar Berbatov added the fourth. Antonio Valencia scored Manchester’s fifth 15 minutes from time.
