Producer Says New HBO Series “Game of Thrones” “Beyond Rater R”
HBO‘s upcoming series “Game of Thrones” will not be for the faint of heart. This was the promise of co-producer and writer David Benioff when he talked to several writers at the 2010 Television Critics Association Winter 2011 Session on Friday.
According to AccessHollywood, Benioff said that “Game of Thrones,” which has been adapted from George R.R. Martin’s book, will contain a lot of violence and sex that it may not even pass for an R rating had it been turned into a film. “We’re able to do it the way George does it in the books in terms of the darkness of it and the violence of it and the sexuality of it, which a major studio would never let you do, even if you’re lucky enough to get an R rating. This is beyond ‘R.”
“Game of Thrones,” which tells of a power struggle in a dark and turbulent fantasy land, stars Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, and Lena Headley, among others. The series is scheduled to debut on April 17, 2011.
