Red Sox Land Adrian Gonzalez
The Boston Red Sox have reached an agreement with first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, giving them a major weapon they can use against American League nemeses New York Yankees.
The Red Sox announced the deal on Monday, ending speculations about whether the deal would push through or not. Gonzalez, who played for the San Diego Padres the past four seasons, gives Boston another slugger who can pose problems to opposing teams, particularly the Red Sox’s American League East rivals Yankees. Gonzalez did not waste time making his mission known, saying immediately after the deal was announced that he is “ready to beat the Yanks.”
Gonzalez hit 31 homers last season and also recorded 101 RBIs for the Padres, who parted ways with the reliable first baseman in exchange for three minor league prospects—outfielder Reymond Fuentes, right-handed pitcher Casey Kelly, and first baseman Anthony Rizzo. San Diego will receive another player who will be named later.
