Reese Witherspoon Struck by Car

Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon was hospitalized briefly on Wednesday after she was struck by a car driven by an octogenarian.

Reports said Witherspoon, 35, was jogging in Santa Monica at around 11am Wednesday when she was hit by the car, which was being driven by an 84-year-old woman. The unnamed driver reportedly failed to yield to a pedestrian at a crosswalk. A rep for the “Walk the Line” star said the actress was “not seriously injured,” although she was brought to the hospital after the incident. Witherspoon has since been released and is now “resting comfortably at home,” the rep said in statement.

Usmagazine also reported that Witherspoon is not pressing any charges against the driver, who was only cited for failing to yield to pedestrian at a crosswalk. A source said “the incident is being treated as an accident” and no charges will be filed against the woman, but she may be fined for the violation. “The driver was not given an alcohol test at the accident scene and typically she would receive a fine and a point on her driving license as it is considered a moving violation,” the source said.
