Roger Federer Drops to Number Three
As rival Rafael Nadal won his second Grand Slam trophy in just four weeks, the record holder for most number of major titles fell to the number three spot, a rank he last held almost seven years ago.
Roger Federer of Switzerland took the third spot in the latest ranking by the Association of Tennis Professionals.
Novak Djokovic of Serbia now holds the number two position with 6905 points against Federer’s 6885. Nadal is way ahead on the list with 10745 points who recently won the 2010 French Open and the recently concluded Wimbledon championships.
The last time Federer was in the third spot was in November 2003. He now holds the most number of consecutive weeks at number 1 which is at 237 weeks. The ‘Swiss Maestro’ was one week shy on tying the record for most number of weeks at number one. Pete Sampras still holds that record at 286.
Federer entered his fifth month without winning any tournament.
