Roy Jones Jr. outclassed Omar Sheika
Roy Jones Jr. won the North American Boxing Association’s vacant light heavyweight title with a convincing victory over Omar Sheika in his hometown Pensacola, Florida. Jones never knocked Sheika down, but the 40 year-old fighter out-classed him in the fifth round.
The referee stopped the fight at 1:45 in round number 5. Jones emerged as a faster and more skilled boxer had blooded Omar Sheika’s face with a flurry of punches. Sheika, who kept Jones backed up in the ropes for much of the fight, never went down and wanted to continue.
“I’m glad the referee did stop the fight before I messed him up even more,” Jones said.
The 40-year-old Jones Jr. has a new record is (53-5, 39 KOs).
