Salvador Cabañas Balazo: Paraguayan striker in critical but stable condition
Salvador Cabañas Balazo Video: Club America striker Salvador Cabanas remains hospitalized after he was shot in the head early Monday in a Mexico City bar he had visited with his friend and relatives.
The 29-year-old underwent seven hours of emergency surgery and was reported to be in critical, but stable condition. The bullet has not yet been removed from his skull because removing it would cause more damage at this point.
Cabanas, who was slated to play for Paraguay in this year’s World Cup, is a prolific and natural goalscorer known for his array of skills on the field. He was top scorer in the 2007 and 2008 Copa Libertadores and was Paraguayan Footballer of the Year and South American Footballer of the Year in 2007.
