Samoa PM Says Fiji PM Should Resign
The Prime Minister of Samoa called the Acting Prime Minister of Fiji is ignorant and should resign.
Radio Australia reported that Samoa PM Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi (pictured) has called Fiji Acting PM Commodore Frank Bainimarama as an ignorant leader who should resign and return to barracks.
The current tension between the two leaders escalated after the expulsion and branding as persona non grata of the Acting Australian High Commissioner Sara Roberts by Bainimarama. It was said that Roberts was interfering with the Fiji’s domestic affairs.
Australia then lobbied Pacific nations not to attend the forthcoming Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Plus meeting next week.
Bainimarama invited Tuilaepa to the meeting but the latter has rejected the invitation because it was from someone who overthrew a democratically elected government. It is also not fitting as Samoa is a member of the Pacific Islands Forum (where Fiji is a suspended member). Samoa is also not a member of the MSG Plus.
Bainimarama has been serving as Acting Prime Minister since January 5, 2007.
