Shanna Moakler quits Miss California post over Trump’s verdict
Former beauty queen Shanna Moakler has resigned as co-executive director of the Miss California USA pageant— a day after Carrie Prejean was allowed to keep her crown.
As we reported yesterday, Donald Trump, owner of the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, announced that Prejean would retain her Miss California title, despite breaking pageant rules over her involvement in the anti-gay marriage movement, and failure to disclose that she had previously posed in semi-nude photographs.
“I cannot with a clear conscience move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it or the contracts I signed committing myself as a youth,” Moakler said in a statement issued by her publicist. “I want to be a role model for young women with high hopes of pageantry, but now feel it more important to be a role model for my children. I am sorry and hope I have not let any young supporters down but wish them the best of luck in fulfilling their dreams.”
