‘Shrek’ Remains Unbeatable at the Box Office

Shrek_forever_afterStudio estimates show that Shrek Forever After remained at the top of the weekend box office even if four new films entered the competition this week that have the aim of grabbing the number one spot.

The fourth installment of the popular franchise raked in a studio estimate of 25.3 million dollars. Taking second spot is the R-rated film Get Him to the Greek which has a studio estimate of 17.4 million dollars. That’s two million less than what was projected for the film that people thought would stop Shrek for a third weekend reign.

At the third spot is Killers, which stars Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. It took 16.1 million dollars. This film was not allowed to be seen for critics to avoid unfavorable reviews.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Sex and the City 2 rounded up the top five. The other two new entries Marmaduke and Splice took the sixth and seventh spots, respectively.

Actual estimates to be released Monday, June 7.
