‘Star Trek’ theme park to open in 2014
Turns out King Abdullah II is a Trekkie. According to a report from Crave’s Eric Mack, Jordan is planning to construct a 184-acre park themed on sci-fi franchise Star Trek .The massive project, worth $1.5 billion, will be called the Red Sea Astrarium and will be located in the coastal town of Aqaba.
“At its core, Star Trek is about bringing worlds together and about a profound hope for the future,” Liz Kalodner, executive vice president and general manager of CBS Consumer Products, said. “We are proud to bring such a unique, interactive Star Trek property to this part of the world to be a part of Jordan’s future.”
Scheduled to open in 2014, the attractions will be based on the 2009 film directed by J. J. Abrams and will be “creatively developed” by Paramount Recreation.
