Study: Men Consider Women with “Hourglass” Figure Perfect

What do 1950s sex symbol Marilyn Monroe, current Hollywood actress Jessica Alba, and Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio have in common? They all possess, or once possessed, the “perfect” body according to a new study.

Researchers said men, although would likely not miss the cleavage of a woman, rely on the waist-to-hip ratio to decide whether a member of the opposite sex is attractive or not. The study said women whose waist line is about 70 percent of the circumference of their hips were believed to possess the “perfect” body. These women are generally known as those who have “hourglass” figure.

“Men rated images with an hourglass shape and a slim waist … as most attractive, irrespective of breast size,” said anthropologist Dr. Barnaby Dixson, who conducted a research to find what people throughout history found attractive in the opposite sex. “It is likely that perfect 0.7 ratio sends a biological signal to men that woman is most fertile and most likely to produce a healthy offspring, no matter what size that woman is,” he said.
