T-Mobile on Wednesday officially launched its second Google Android phone, the myTouch 3G, to compete against AT&T’s iPhone.

The slimmer, lighter, and sexier version of the smartphone features onscreen QWERTY keyboard and dialing keypad, and like the T-Mobile G1 also features the Google Android mobile operating system.

The operator is touting users’ ability to customize the phone with more than 5,000 apps, homescreen themes and exterior shells and gel skins. In addition, several Google features such as Google Maps and YouTube have been pre-installed on the device.

myTouch 3G is set to arrive in stores August 5 for $199 with a two-year service contract agreement.
