Thierry Henry Joins NY Red Bulls
Former Barcelona star Thierry Henry is headed to the United States. The French international has agreed to sign with the New York Red Bulls of the US Major League Soccer, the team announced on Wednesday. Details of the deal remains unclear, with reports only saying that the 32-year-old Frenchman agreed to a “multi-year” contract.
Henry, who had an eight-year stay with English Premier side Arsenal before moving to Barcelona in 2007, said he is excited to begin a new path in his storied football career. “This marks an exciting new chapter in my career and life. It is an honor to play for the New York Red Bulls,” he said. The striker, who has 51 career goals in 123 matches for the French national team, said he is ready to help bring a championship to Red Bulls. “I am fully aware of the team’s history and my sole goal during my time here is to help win the club its first championship.”
Red Bulls’ best season came in 2008, when they reached but lost to the Columbus Crew, 1-3, in the MLS cup final.
