Two Spanish soldiers killed in Afghan suicide attack
Two Spanish soldiers were killed and four others have been seriously injured on Sunday in a suicide attack in Afghanistan, authorities said.
The attack was in western Herat province’s Shindand district. The victims were hit by a van full with explosives which rammed into a joint Spanish-Afghan convoy returning from a training exercise.
Taliban rebels took responsibility for the attack in a statement posted on their website and said that one of their fighters, Mullah Habibullah, who was resident of the province, carried out the assault.
The violence in Afghanistan has increasingly worsened with this year seeing the most insurgent attacks since the Taliban were removed from power for sheltering Al-Qaeda.
More than 4,000 people – mostly insurgents – have been killed in the conflict in Afghanistan so far this year.
