UAE and Saudi Arabia to block some BlackBerry services

Here’s an interesting news from the Persian Gulf.

According to a report from the BBC, certain BlackBerry functions will be banned in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia because of national security concerns. E-mail, web browsing and messaging for the smartphone will be blocked “until a solution compatible with local laws is reached”.

The UAE ban will start on October 11, while the Saudi move will kick-off later this month. However, it was unclear whether the restrictions would affect only local users or foreign visitors with roaming services as well.

Twitterers took to the web to protest the announcement but officials of Research in Motion, makers of the BlackBerry, were not immediately available for comment.
