UEFA Champions League: Manchester United vs. Besiktas

Manchester United will be looking to guarantee top spot in Group B of the UEFA Champions League when they take on Turkish club Besiktas to Old Trafford this evening.

The Red Devils qualified for the knock-out stages of the tournament on match-day four, when a dramatic late comeback against CSKA Moscow earned them a 3-3 draw. They also enjoyed a convincing 3-0 victory over Everton on the weekend and momentum will certainly be on their side.

Besiktas, in contrast, have been quite inadequate in Europe this season and they definitely don’t look like the team that can get something from tonight’s clash.

Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to experiment with his squad, and the Black Eagles will look to capitalize on this.

Unfortunately, there will be no Rio Ferdinand for the Premier League champions tonight (calf) or Owen Hargreaves (knee) while Gary Neville did not train on Tuesday morning.

The match kicks-off at 20:45 CET.

UPDATE: Besiktas defeated United 1-0 on Wednesday night. The loss ended the Red Devils’ European run of 23 matches unbeaten at home and they still need a point to top Group B.
