UEFA Champions League: Sevilla vs. CSKA Moscow (2nd Leg)
Russian club CSKA Moscow (Moskva) needs to score against La Liga side Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League tonight to keep alive their hopes of reaching the last eight.
The Rojiblancos host the Russians for the second leg of their last-16 tie after last month’s first leg finished 1-1. Both teams aren’t favorites to progress to the semifinals but one of them will certainly reach the quarterfinals of Europe’s premier club competition. The Spanish outfit only needs to stop CSKA from scoring in the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in order to advance.
The Andalusians go into the match having taken just two points from their three league games since the first leg, while the Army Men have two more competitive games under their belts following the resumption of the Russian Premier league.
In a recent interview, Sevilla coach Manolo Jiminez said: “It could be one of the most important games of my life, but honestly, and this isn’t a cliché, for me every game that my team plays is important.”
The Rojiblancos hold a slender advantage over the Russians but CSKA are unbeaten against Spanish sides in European competition.
The match kicks-off at 20:45 CET.
UPDATE: Keisuke Honda’s powerful free kick gave CSKA a 2-1 win at Sevilla (3-2 agg) to send the Russians through to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
