UFC 135: Jon Jones Faces Quinton “Rampage” Jackson
Jon Jones will defend his light heavyweight title against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson on Saturday as the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Denver for the first time since 1995 with UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage.
Jones set a new UFC record on March 19 this year when he became the youngest UFC champion in history with a TKO victory over Mauricio Rua. The 24-year-old Jones comes into UFC 135 with a 13-1 record, his lone loss coming via a KO from Lyoto Machida in 2009, when he lost the light heavyweight title in his first defense. Since that loss, though, Jones has racked up four-straight victories against high-caliber opponents, including the spectacular stoppage of the legendary Rua at UFC 128.
Standing in Jones’s way to UFC superstardom is Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Rampage will enter the fight with a vast advantage in experience. The 33-year-old Rampage has amassed 32 wins in a 40-fight career that began in 1999, when Jones was only 12 years old. Rampage is coming off two hard-fought victories against Machida and Matt Hamill over the past several months, making him a dangerous opponent for the rising Jones.
Sharing the spotlight with the Jones-Rampage rumble at UFC 135 is the welterweight battle between Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck. The main card will also feature Travis Browne vs. Rob Broughton, Nate Diaz vs. Takanori Gomi, and Ben Rothwell vs. Mark Hunt.
