US Open 2009: Andy Murray vs. Marin Cilic

Second seed Andy Murray will continue his quest to win the 2009 U.S. Open against 16th-ranked Marin Cilic of Croatia.

This match is scheduled to take place sometime after 2:10 p.m. ET, at which time the women’s singles – quarterfinal match between Na Li and Kim Clijsters would have concluded.

Lat Sunday, the 22-year-old Scot had to play the role of the bad guy, ending Taylor Dent‘s amazing run with a straight-sets win in the third round at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

In a recent interview Murray said: “I’ll have to make sure I return well against him [Cilic], because he’s got a good serve, and will be solid from the back of the court.”

The 20-year-old Croatian tennis ace has collected the scalps of Ryan Sweeting, Jesse Levine and Dennis Istomin to reach this match. He hopes to avenge his defeat at Roland Garros before heading to a Manhattan bar tomorrow to watch his country face England in the 2010 World Cup qualifier.

UPDATE: Big-serving Croatian Marin Cilic beat Scotland’s Andy Murray 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 to reach his first Grand Slam quarterfinal. Cilic book a quarterfinal match against Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro.
