Vancouver Olympics: Canada vs. USA Women’s Hockey Finals (UPDATED)
Canada vs. USA Women’s Hockey Finals Live Stream: It’s expected, the women’s ice hockey gold medal match for 2010 Vancouver Olympics will be between arch rivals USA and Canada. The clash is set on Thursday, February 25 at the Canada Hockey Place.
Ever since women’s hockey became internationally popular, The United States and and its northern neighbor have met in almost every world championships and Olympic games.
Canada has two Olympic golds with nine world championships and 12 Three/Four Nations Cup titles, while Team USA has one Olympic gold, three world titles and two Four Nations trophies. The Canadians brought home the gold in 2002 and 2006 Olympic games but in 2008 and 2009, the Americans took the world championships from them. The U.S. players suffered a very big upset against Sweden in the 2006 Turin Olympics semifinals but are in very good shape now as they won the world championships for the past two years.
After losing back-to-back world against their rivals, Canada will be very determined to end the dry spell on Thursday in Vancouver.
“We’ve had a couple years of disappointment,” said Canadian veteran forward Jayna Hefford. “We didn’t play with the confidence we needed to. This season we have really picked that up. Thursday night is going to be a battle.”
In this year’s Winter Games, two common opponents faced USA and Canada. They are Sweden and Finland. Team Canada defeated Sweden 13-1, then Finland was held goalless in the semifinals on Monday. The Americans, on the other hand, also didn’t allow Finland to score with 6-0 victory, then defeated Sweden 9-1 in the semis.
The game will start at 3:30 p.m. (PST).
UPDATE: The Canadians beat the United States 2-0 to win the gold in the women’s hockey event of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. It was Canada’s third straight Olympic gold.
