Ex-boxing champ Vernon Forrest shot dead
Former IBF welterweight and WBC light-middleweight world champion Vernon Forrest was shot to death following an attempted carjacking in Atlanta Saturday night (July 25), according to local police.
Forrest, 38, was at a gas station filling air in the tires of his Jaguar when at least two men jumped out of a red Chevy and demanded certain personal objects from the ex-boxing champ.
According to reports, he tried to grab a gun out of vehicle, chased after his assailant, and was shot at least seven times in the back.
Forrest, a member of the USA team at Barcelona Olympics, gained stardom when he beat Sugar Shane Mosley in 2002.
