WATCH: Netherlands vs. Uruguay Live Stream [World Cup Semifinal]
Netherlands vs. Uruguay Live Stream: The Netherlands (Holland) and Uruguay, two teams trying to regain past glories, lock horns in the first semi-final match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Cape Town. The Dutch are hoping to reach their first final since 1978; Uruguay since 1950.
Bert van Marwijk’s side edged out five-time champions Brazil in the quarterfinals, while Oscar Tabarez’s men defeated the Black Stars of Ghana 4-2 in a penalty shoot out after the teams played a 1-1 stalemate following 120 minutes of play.
Few would have predicted La Celeste would be the last South American team standing since they barely qualified for this year’s competition. Oranje, on the other hand, are the short odds favorites, having won all eight qualifying matches and all five of their games in South Africa.
However, both sides have gaps in their starting XI. La Celeste will be without Luis Suarez and Jorge Fucile due to suspensions, while Diego Lugano and Nicolas Lodeiro are doubtful because of injuries. Without Suarez, Diego Forlan has a heavier offensive burden to carry. The 31-year-old Atletico Madrid striker has three goals in the tournament, including a long-range free kick against Ghana.
The Netherlands, meanwhile, will miss Gregory van der Wiel and Nigel de Jong who both picked up their second booking of the tournament against Brazil.
