World Cup 2010: Honduras vs. Chile Live Stream [UPDATED]
It was in 1962 that la Roja beat Yugoslavia in the third-place playoff in Santiago. The South Americans have since been to four World Cups, played 13 matches and failed to win again.
However, Chile finished second in the CONMEBOL this year, just a point behind tournament favorites Brazil and five points ahead of Argentina. Humberto Suazo was top scorer in the South American qualifiers but was injured in la Roja‘s warm-up friendly against Israel.
The initial projection was that the 29-year-old Real Zaragoza frontman would be sidelined for at least three weeks, but his recovery has been quicker than expected and coach Marcelo Bielsa said he would be available today.
“If you are asking me if he is in the same shape as before his injury, of course he is not,” said Bielsa. “But if you ask me if he is healthy, yes. He can now assume the same roles as the other players.”
Honduras, on the other hand, has never won a World Cup match. Los Catrachos qualified for the tournament in 1982 and held Spain and Northern Ireland to draws but was defeated by Yugoslavia to finish bottom of the group.
UPDATE 1: Honduras midfielder Wilson Palacios is in doubt for today’s clash after he pulled a muscle in his left leg in a tuneup game against Romania.
The match kicks-off at 13:30 CET (7:30 a.m. ET).
UPDATE 2: Chile beat Honduras 1-0 through a late first-half goal from Club America winger Jean Beausejour.
