World Cup 2010: South Africa vs. Uruguay Live Stream [UPDATED]
After opening up the 2010 FIFA World Cup with a 1-1 stalemate against Mexico, the Bafana Bafana will try to raise their chances of qualification for the Round of 16 by beating Uruguay in their second Group A encounter.
The match will be played at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria at 8:30 p.m. (14:30 ET), the same pitch where Ghana beat Serbia 1-0 on Sunday to become the first African team to win a World Cup match on African soil.
While the South Africans have failed to progress past the group stage in their previous two World Cups, they look to avoid becoming the first host nation to fail to earn a spot in the second round of the tournament, so expect thousands of vuvuzela-tooting fans at the venue.
“We want to hear those vuvuzelas, not during the national anthems, but we would like the fans to get behind us more,” captain Aaron Mokoena, who plays for English Premier League side Portsmouth, told reporters.
Uruguay, meanwhile, earned a point on Friday in a goalless draw with France, and coach Oscar Tabarez said they would need to be much more vigorous in their next match. La Celeste showed against the Europeans that they can keep their form for 90 minutes even when they went down to ten players.
UPDATE: South Africa lost to Uruguay 3-0 and took a step closer to becoming the first host nation to fail to advance to the Round of 16. La Celeste, on the other hand, moved top of the Group A standings on four points, with France and Mexico set to meet on Thursday.
