World Cup 2010: USA vs. Slovenia Live Stream [UPDATED]
The United States men’s national soccer team takes on Slovenia this afternoon at Ellis Park in Johannesburg, a match that pitches the smallest nation at the 2010 FIFA World Cup against the largest. However, coach Matjaz Kek assured his men will not be appalled by a team from a nation with 150 times the two million-person population of Slovenia.
With the European side sitting on three points and leading Group C, the Yanks must approach the game with a victory in mind. USA is tied for second place, with England, after earning a 1-1 stalemate with the Three Lions.
A defeat to Slovenia would not see Bob Bradley’s men mathematically eliminated, but it would mean that they have to beat Algeria in the group finale and rely on the results of other teams. A win, however, would put Landon Donovan and co. well-placed to progress from the group with an unsurpassed four points.
“We’re not going to go into it taking anybody lightly just because maybe the rest of the world doesn’t know their names,” USA captain Carlos Bocanegra said. “It’s an important game for us.”
While the Americans were underdogs against Fabio Capellos’ side, they expect a different match against the Slovenes. However, both teams will line up in traditional 4-4-2 formation, with Bradley allowing Donovan and Clint Dempsey to wander inside. Expect the United States to have much more possession than it had against England as the Yanks try to break the seal of Slovenia’s defense.
The match kicks-off at 16:00 CET (10:00 a.m. ET).
UPDATE: The match ended in 2-2 draw. If the Americans beat Algeria in their next match, they will advance. If they draw they can progress so long as England fail to defeat Slovenia.
