World Cup 2010 Qualifying: Italy vs. Cyprus

The Italians host Cyprus in Parma tonight in a now insignificant qualification match after the current World Cup champions secured their passage to South Africa with 2-2 draw in Ireland.

Having already qualified for football’s biggest showcase, the Azzurri will field a new squad against Cyprus. According to reports, the entire starting X1 from Saturday’s clash will be benched, and coach Marcello Lippi will use the other half of his team.

Cyprus, on the other hand, will face Italy brimming with confidence after the thrashing of Bulgaria last weekend.

The match kicks-off at 8:00 p.m. CET (2:00 p.m. ET).

UPDATE: Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino scored a late hat-trick to rescue Azzurri as they came back from 2-0 down to beat Cyprus 3-2 at the Ennio Tardini stadium.
