Kodak Sues Apple and Blackberry

Camera maker giant Kodak has sued both Apple – maker of iPhone and Research in Motion (RIM) – maker of Blackberry for alleged digital imaging technology infringement. Kodak filed the case at the International Trade Commission in the United States.

Both Apple and RIM are accused of using a method of previewing camera phone images that have been patented by Kodak.

Laura Quatela, chief intellectual property officer stated that they had talks with both companies for a settlement out of court but to no avail. They currently issue licenses to major technology companies like Nokia, Motorola, LG, Sony Ericsson, and Samsung for their digital imaging preview technologies.

Apple is not new to lawsuits having received several for iPhone during the last couple of years. The latest one was the case filed by Nokia for infringing 10 of its patents. Apple replied back by filing a counter case saying Nokia infringed 13 of its patents.

Kodak has two other cases filed against Apple in a US District Court involving infringement over image processing at different resolutions and multi-program help for images.
