Obama meets all living presidents at Oval Office

All the former living US presidents, together with President-elect Barack Obama gathered at the Oval Office Wednesday.

“I just want to thank the president for hosting us,” the president-elect said, flanked by former President George H.W. Bush on one side and his son on the other.

Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter completed the extraordinary line-up of one of the world’s most elite clubs, both smiling broadly.

“All the gentlemen here understand both the pressures and possibilities of this office,” Obama said.
“For me to have the opportunity to get advice, good counsel and fellowship with these individuals is extraordinary.”

The gentlemen ate from the White House daily menu and talked for about an hour.

It was the first time since 1981 (Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan) that all living presidents have been together at the White House.

Before the lunch, Obama met with Bush privately for 30 minutes, when the current crisis in Gaza was believed to have been one of the subjects discussed.
