Playboy Goes 3-D

Playboy is getting into the 3-D act. The June issue of the popular men’s magazine will come with 3-D glasses, which would allow readers to see the centerfold model Hope Dworaczyk come alive. Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, a self-professed non-3-D fan, said that 3-D technology fit her models to a T.

The 3-D treatment is the latest move by Playboy to attract more readers and arrest dipping sales. The magazine has seen its circulation shrink from 3.15 million four years ago to 1.5 million this year. Last year, the cartoon character Marge Simpson was featured on the cover of the October issue, a first for an animated model for the magazine.

Dworaczyk, the 51st playmate of the year, will also appear in the usual 2-D but the focus will certainly be on the 3-D centerfold. Hefner revealed that he first tried to publish a 3-D photo for Playboy back in the 1950s but backed out when he realized how expensive 3-D glasses were at the time.

Dworaczyk said the 3-D glasses make her assets appear bigger than they are. “Its kind of like it says on the rearview mirror…things may appear larger.”
